However, when it comes to managing employee vacations by a manager, it is really a tough job for him, as he always has to check that while giving or granting the vacation to an employee, the work is not affected. A manager can make the tough job simpler if he follows the following tips before and after granting employee vacations:1) Always ask your employees to plan their vacations in advance, so that there won’t be staffing problem for the particular day. 2) Most of the time it happens that more than one employee asks for vacation on the same day. This is the time when the manager needs to analyze the overall work load for the day and then take appropriate decisions. If not sure of the work load, he needs to analyze the reason for the vacation and the most valid one must be taken into consideration.3) Sometimes the manager can end up in a difficult situation where he will have to grant employee vacations to more than one employee (for example if one employee wants vacation for his marriage and the other employee asks for vacation as one of his family member has expired then in this case you have no option other than granting vacation to both of them) in such situations you must arrange for a back-up who can manage the work load for that day.4) Manager must always make sure that when a particular employee goes on vacation his work must be distributed amongst other employees so that when he comes back there should not be any work pending. The work must not be affected due to one or two persons on vacation and this is the duty of the manager to maintain a smooth flow of work even after absenteeism of few employees.
